DBYP are proud to announce our Talking China series, which we kick-off with our speaker Sven Agten on the topic from English teacher to CEO. This series aims to provide young professionals and students in China with deeper insights regarding all aspects of building a career in China.

During this first Talking China event, Sven Agten will elaborate on his rich personal and professional experience in China. He will also share his vision on social and economic trends in modern China and how companies and people alike can deal with them. In addition, his talk will shed light on the general topic “How do I make it in China”.

About the Speaker

Although originally from Belgium Sven is actually a real product of China. He arrived in China in 2004 at the age of 24 and has never worked a single day of his life outside China. Sven speaks Chinese fluently and is married to a Chinese.

He started his career as an English in in the northern province of Heilongjiang, after which he moved to Beijing to start his corporate career. In 2008, Sven became responsible for a Belgian international firm’s entry into China and as a result set up a Sino-Belgian Joint Venture of 6 million euro in Hebei (Tangshan).

After he sold the company, Sven pursued his MBA in Belgium. Upon completion of his MBA he became CEO Asia Pacific of RHEINZHINK, a world leader zinc manufacturing and architectural use.

In 2017 Sven’s book on his vision on social and economic trends in China, titled “How do I make it in China”, was published (in Dutch) and was later translated in German and published in 2018.’

The Dutch & Belgian Young Professionals is an independent and non-profit organization comprised of Dutch and Belgian young professionals who have a connection with China.

The DBYP strives to elevate the professional and social connections of young professionals in China through means of networking, company visits, and other career-driven or professional events. Beside the internal focus on individuals from (or with a relation to) the Netherlands and Belgium, we want to establish a social platform for more contact with other Young Professional Initiatives in China.
