Senior Key Account Manager
As a Senior Key Account Manager, you will be responsible for managing strategic key accounts while leading a small team of account managers.
This role combines hands-on account ownership with team leadership, ensuring strong customer relationships, consistent performance, and long-term business growth. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, drive customer-centric strategies, and foster a culture of commercial excellence.
Your responsibilities
Team leadership & development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of account managers to achieve both team and individual targets
- Conduct regular performance reviews and identify development opportunities
- Establish and promote best practices and standardized account management approaches
Customer relationship management
- Take full ownership of key accounts, acting as the main point of contact for both commercial and operational topics
- Coordinate internal stakeholders to ensure smooth execution and high service quality
- Monitor performance against KPIs and proactively address risks to customer satisfaction
- Build long-term partnerships, prioritizing sustainable growth over short-term gains
- Act as the voice of the customer within the organization
Communication & stakeholder management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers
- Lead customer communication, including regular meetings and business reviews
- Manage commercial discussions and negotiations based on aligned internal strategies
- Ensure clear and proactive communication across internal teams (Operations, Shipping Agency, Business Development, IT, Finance)
Value-based selling
- Develop tailored logistics solutions based on customer needs
- Prepare quotations and proposals in line with agreed pricing frameworks
- Identify growth opportunities and proactively expand business within key accounts
Project & performance management
- Ensure proper tracking of activities, reporting, and collaboration through relevant tools
- Maintain and update SOPs based on client requirements and internal changes
- Establish regular reporting structures to monitor performance and support data-driven decisions
- Support accounts receivable processes in collaboration with Finance
- Coordinate internal and external meetings to drive continuous improvement
You are
- Bachelor’s degree or above
- 8–10 years of experience in key account management or similar roles within logistics/ocean freight, including 3–5 years of team management experience
- Strong knowledge of logistics solutions (ocean freight, air, rail, trucking, warehousing, 4PL)
- Fluent in German and English with strong communication skills
- Customer-oriented, proactive, and solution-driven
- Strong in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
- Confident in negotiation and presentation at senior levels
- Analytical, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment
- Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
