Alibaba Cloud: technology behind the Double 11 Shopping Festival

Nobody is unfamiliar with Double 11 Shopping Festival in China. Initiated by Alibaba​ and adopted by other e-commerce platforms and retailers, it is now a global shopping event . This year, 2,321 million parcel orders have been placed on November 11. 105 industrial belts surpassed 100 million rmb in Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV). There were even 330,000 users placed orders for new cars! By the end of the 24-hour shopping day, the total GMV reached US$74.1 billion across Alibaba's various shopping platforms.

At peak traffic, Alibaba platforms registered a record 583,000 orders per second.
