Benelux Chamber Receives 140 Law Students in Shanghai
This week, 140 law students from KU Leuven are in Shanghai to participate in Fudan University’s Summer School. Alongside their academic program, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai is proud to organize a series of unique activities that introduce the group to Shanghai’s legal and business landscape while connecting them with our members and partners.

The program starts with a visit to the Xuhui District Courthouse and the Site of the 1st National CPC Congress, providing the students with valuable insights into the Chinese legal and historical context.
A key highlight will be a session hosted by our member Philippe Snel, Managing Partner at DaWo Law Firm, who will share his expertise on practicing law in China. His presentation will be followed by a Belgian business panel, bringing together leading voices from our community:
Jan Van der Borght, Port Representative of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges
Dieter Verstreken, Vice President China Strategy at Melexis
Charlotte Vanassche, General Manager China at PR Living
Bert Ghys, Associate Director at KPMG
The Chamber will also host its annual Consul Café, where students will have the opportunity to meet and engage with Belgian consular staff, and more Belgian companies in Shanghai.
Beyond the legal and diplomatic dimension, the group will enjoy exclusive company visits. At Philips, board member Hansje van der Noort will share her experience on how to succeed as a corporate lawyer in China, followed by a tour of Philips’ cutting-edge R&D center. The students will also visit Volvo Shanghai, where they will experience firsthand how innovation and the Chinese market go hand in hand.
These activities, made possible thanks to the generous support of our members and partners, ensure that KU Leuven students not only deepen their understanding of Chinese law through Fudan’s Summer School Program but also gain a real-world perspective on doing business and building careers in China.
The Benelux Chamber of Commerce is proud to play a part in connecting the next generation of Belgian legal professionals with Shanghai’s vibrant business and legal community.
