To foster international relations and streamline people-to-people exchanges, the Chinese government has strategically broadened its visa exemption policy to encompass a more extensive range of countries. This notable expansion makes it possible for all the countries of the Benelux Chamber of Commerce — namely Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg to be able to enter China visa-free for 15 days.

This expanded visa exemption policy is set to benefit ordinary passport holders from Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, as well as Belgium and Luxembourg. This initiative will be in effect from March 14, 2024, through November 30, 2024. During this period, individuals possessing ordinary passports from these countries will be allowed to enter China without a visa for purposes such as business, tourism, visiting relatives, and short transits, provided their stay does not exceed 15 days.  The same policy has already been in effect since the 1st of December for the Netherlands France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Malaysia

The introduction of visa exemptions for Benelux countries, together with the selected European nations and Malaysia, signifies a crucial shift aimed at transforming international travel and strengthening diplomatic ties. It demonstrates China's dedication to enhancing international cooperation and mutual understanding by simplifying access and travel arrangements for both businesses and travelers. This policy not only aims to enrich the travel experience for citizens of these countries but also to pave the way for deeper cultural and economic exchanges, thereby reinforcing the ties between China and these nations. The Chamber has observed a significant increase in the number of returning former Benelux expatriates and students to Shanghai, and it is optimistic that this policy will further encourage such movements.
