Breaking Records: Benelux Ranks Among Europe's Innovation Elite
The annual European Innovation Scoreboard is based on 32 factors that are compared with other countries both within and outside of Europe, providing a comprehensive assessment of their research and innovation strengths. It encompasses various aspects, such as the quality of research systems, investments in research and development, and the utilization of information technologies.
The EIS report not only highlights the traditional strengths and weaknesses of each country but also points out recent improvements since 2022. For Belgium, these improvements include advancements in product innovation and employment within innovative enterprises. Netherlands, on the other hand, has seen progress in fostering collaboration between innovative SMEs and enterprises focusing on ICT training. As for Luxembourg, notable improvements are seen in the employment of ICT specialists and the export of medium and high-tech goods.
Overall, the European Innovation Scoreboard 2023 signals a significant enhancement in innovation performance, showing an increase of approximately 8.5% since 2016. Over the course of this period, innovation performances have improved in 25 countries, although the pace has been somewhat slower in more recent years. Moreover, 20 member states experienced a noteworthy rise in their innovation capabilities in the past year, while only seven observed a decline. Nevertheless, countries with weaker innovation systems tend to progress at a slower pace than the EU average.
These impressive rankings and advancements underscore the commitment and dedication of the Benelux nations towards fostering innovation and driving progress in a rapidly evolving global landscape. As they continue to lead the charge in cutting-edge research, technology, and collaboration, the future looks brighter than ever for the Benelux region in the realm of innovation.
As Benelux solidifies its position among Europe's innovation elite, its journey is further amplified by a powerful partnership with the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. With a firm foothold in one of the world's most vibrant business hubs, this strategic collaboration propels the region's innovation prowess to unparalleled heights on the global stage.
