Dialogue with Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration on Talent and Visas
On Friday, October 17, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai met with representatives of the Shanghai Entry-Exit Administration to discuss the Chamber’s Intern2China program and recent developments in China’s visa policies.
During the meeting, Shanghai’s role as a testing ground for new visa measures was underscored, particularly the ongoing e-Visa pilot program, which is currently being implemented in the city and may later expand to other regions such as Beijing and the Pearl River Delta. The Exit-Entry Administration reaffirmed Shanghai’s strong commitment to attracting and retaining international talent, and expressed keen interest in the Intern2China initiative, recognizing it as a valuable program that aligns with the city’s efforts to promote talent mobility and cross-cultural exchange.
Since the launch of China’s visa-free entry policy, Shanghai has experienced a marked increase in international arrivals, especially among young professionals and students. The new e-Visa system represents another important step in facilitating smoother entry procedures. Through this pilot, companies can apply for e-visas to invite foreign visitors, and the program may later include this way of applying for visa to invite interns as well. The Chamber was invited to help connect member companies interested in joining the approved e-Visa list.
Looking ahead, the Benelux Chamber plans to host an information session together with the Entry-Exit Administration for its members to provide updates on the latest visa developments and related procedures. These initiatives aim to make it easier for foreign talent to live, work, and learn in China, further reinforcing Shanghai’s reputation as an open and internationally oriented city.
