Author: Benelux Chamber Shanghai

Good news for foreign employees and companies!

On December 31, 2021, the Chinese authorities have announced that the preferential individual income tax policy for foreign tax residents has been extended until the end of December 2023. This means expatriate employees are allowed to lower their tax burden by claiming a portion of their salary as tax-exempt allowances. Foreign tax residents are entitled to some tax-free benefits in the following categories: housing rental, children's education expense, language training, home flight, meal and laundry expenses and relocation expense.
