Shanghai Unlock: A New Service for International Residents

A new initiative aimed at supporting expatriates in Shanghai has officially been launched with the opening of “Shanghai Unlock,” a service program developed by Jing’an District. Designed to assist international residents, the initiative provides comprehensive guidance on key aspects of life and work in the city, including customs procedures, employment, entrepreneurship, and daily living.
As part of this launch, an informational session will be held on April 17, 2026, at Jing’an Global Connect, focusing on the topic of permanent residency applications. The session will offer a step-by-step guide to obtaining permanent residency in China, addressing common concerns such as eligibility for the “Five-Star Card,” the calculation of salary-related benefits, and the impact of international travel on residency requirements.
The event will also cover practical questions related to family relocation, including procedures for spouses and children joining applicants in China. By providing clear and accessible information, the initiative aims to simplify administrative processes that are often perceived as complex by foreign residents.
Through “Shanghai Unlock,” Jing’an District reinforces its commitment to creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for the international community. The program reflects broader efforts to attract global talent and facilitate their integration into one of China’s most dynamic urban centers.
