The year 2020 was a year characterized by the outbreak of COVID-19 and its subsequent global economic and social impact. Despite the pandemic, China managed a moderate annual growth in GDP (+2.3%), making it the only major economy in the world to report positive GDP growth in 2020. Even though these are positive developments, we must note that the year 2020 marks the worst GPD growth rate since 1976 and the Chinese authorities have thus far refrained from establishing a GDP growth target for the period from 2021-2026.

Considering this context, how have companies from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (the “Benelux”) performed in China in 2020 and how has the pandemic impact the importance of China for their global strategy? How do companies expect to be affected by COVID-19 in 2021 and what will be their impact of the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Chinese investment environment? With your participation, the 2021 Sino Benelux Business Survey will answer these questions.

Although 2021 is expected to again be characterized by the impact of COVID-19 on the global economy, the new China-US relations with the recently installed Biden administration will play a key role for international trade. Furthermore, legislative developments will also make their mark on this year, with the implementation of the new Data Security Law and changes of the Individual Income Tax Laws notably impacting expatriates.

At home, the current situation around Brexit will likely impact how business decisions from Benelux countries are made. Additionally, the Benelux countries are noticing more and more interest from Chinese companies to begin or continue expanding to Mainland Europe rather than in the UK.

Also, this year the survey remains completely anonymous, meaning we will not require you to fill in any information which can be linked to your company or person. All data derived from this questionnaire will is strictly confidential and will not be shared with any other third-party.

As we understand your time is valuable, it will take only 10 minutes of your time to complete the 2021 survey. Please click on the link below to participate in the online questionnaire.
