On April 26th, the Consul General Marjo Crompvoets hosted a #KingsDay reception to celebrate the National Day of the Netherlands. The event, which had been delayed for four years due to COVID-19 restrictions, was attended by government officials, diplomats, artists, academics, and members of the business community. The Dutch community also joined in the festivities. The Consul General expressed her gratitude to the sponsors and partners who contributed to making the event a success, adding a traditional orange touch with tulips, stroopwafels, cheese, beer, and bitterballen.

This year, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander celebrated King’s Day in Rotterdam, a sister city of Shanghai, which holds a special place for the Dutch community. Rotterdam is a modern and bustling port city, just like Shanghai. The celebration in a modern city like Rotterdam goes beyond the stereotypical image of the Netherlands as a country of tulips and windmills, highlighting instead its innovative solutions and ideas in solving global challenges, together with countries like China and the provinces of the Yangtze River Delta.
