Later this month, Shanghai will be at the center of the artificial intelligence world, hosting the annual Global Developer Conference (GDC) for AI on March 23 and 24 in the West Bund area of Xuhui District. This eagerly awaited event is expected to draw over 30,000 developers from more than 100 communities worldwide, offering a rich agenda that includes numerous forums, an exhibition over two days, and many face-to-face panels. Esteemed speakers, including Zack Kass from OpenAI, Steve Hoffman from Silicon Valley, and Maureen Lonergan from Amazon, will provide valuable insights, encouraging a dynamic exchange of ideas and collaboration among attendees.

Organized by the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Informatization and other entities, the GDC aims to showcase the breadth of the AI industry, from innovative AI models and toolchains to intelligent hardware, emphasizing Shanghai's role as an AI innovation hub. The conference will feature the global premiere of the latest AI technologies and discuss their implementation in key urban applications and national open-source projects.

This conference marks a significant milestone in AI development, highlighting the city's pivotal role in the global technology landscape. It not only focuses on current advancements but also sets the stage for future innovations, with implications for various sectors such as commerce and education. As the GDC unfolds, it promises to highlight the potential of AI and outline its trajectory, signaling a new chapter in digital transformation and establishing Shanghai as a leading center for technological innovation.

China and Europe on AI

Europe and China, both leaders in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), possess a unique potential to lead global efforts in AI governance and ethical use. The recent provisional agreement on AI regulation by the European Union, namely the Artificial Intelligence Act, aiming to introduce comprehensive rules for AI systems like ChatGPT, shows Europe's commitment to setting standards for the transparent and responsible deployment of AI technologies. At the same time, China's proactive stance in regulating AI-generated content and its launch of the Global AI Governance Initiative demonstrate its readiness to contribute to the development of international norms and practices. This shared focus on regulation, coupled with an openness to innovation, provides a solid foundation for Europe and China to collaborate on establishing universal standards, sharing regulatory experiences, and fostering a safe and equitable digital future.
