INTRODUCTION

Unlock your future with the 2025 Intern2China Study and Internship Program, brought to you by the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai! This unique opportunity offers Benelux students an immersive experience in China. Begin your journey with a month-long course at East China Normal University, where you'll gain essential skills in Chinese language and culture.

Following your studies, embark on a 3–5-month internship between January 2025 and June 2025, tailored to your field of interest with one of our prestigious member companies. This program not only enhances your academic and professional profile but also gives you a competitive edge in the global job market.

This program is an initiative from the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and aims to support Benelux students in their studies and careers. The Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai is a pivotal organization dedicated to fostering economic, academic and cultural ties between Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and China.

Established to support and represent the interests of Benelux businesses in the region, the Chamber provides a comprehensive range of activities including networking events, market research, and advocacy. With a robust membership base of more than 150 member companies in Shanghai, the Chamber facilitates meaningful connections between companies and local partners, promoting business growth and collaboration. The Benelux Chamber of Commerce is officially endorsed by the 3 consulates-general of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg and acts as a platform to boost relations between China and the Benelux region.

 

 

PROCESS

1.     Intake & Registration

The intake and registration process is from July 1st, 2024 and September 30th, 2024. During the intake process, a representative from the Benelux Chamber shall be in touch with all participants and shall conduct thorough interviews to see which industries and organizations are fit for the candidate’s internship. The following industries are as follows:

Although the Benelux Chamber can’t 100% guarantee an internship placement within the preferred organization, the Benelux Chamber will do its utmost best to promote each candidate. Once the interview(s) with each candidate have been conducted, the Benelux Chamber shall initiate a matchmaking process. During this process, the Benelux Chamber will reach out to its’ members and will try to find a matching organization/company. Once a match has been found, the Benelux Chamber will connect both parties and will lead the interview between the organization/company and the candidate. Basic terms regarding internships in China for Benelux students (through the 2025 Intern2China Study and Internship Program) can be found below.

 

2.     Fees

Once an internship contract between participants and the Benelux Chamber/internship organization has been signed, participants will be invited to pay the Academic Fee and the Internship Support Fee to the Benelux Chamber of Commerce. The Academic Fee covers all the costs regarding the Chinese language and culture classes - including the internship visa costs in China- except for accommodation, daily life costs, etc. The Benelux Chamber of Commerce shall forward this fee to the International Department of the partner university.

The Academic Fee is a total of 1650,00 EUR (VAT & handling fees included).

The Internship Support Fee covers all costs including matchmaking with internship placement organizations, support on arrival, support during the stay of the intern (assistance with housing, accommodation registration at the local police station, etc.), etc.

The Internship Fee is a total of 350,00 EUR (VAT & handling fees included).

The total fee will be 2000,00 EUR. Account details shall be shared with each applicant at this point by email. It’s important to note that the applicant’s internship contract shall only be valid when the total fees have been transferred.  Payment should be done AFTER the internship contract has been signed between both parties!

 

3.     Program Outline

Students are expected to arrive in Shanghai before December 27th, 2024 and are invited to share their flight details with the Benelux Chamber of Commerce. The Benelux Chamber of Commerce has a partnership with Juneyao Airlines, which operates direct flights from Belgium to Shanghai; don’t hesitate to reach out to the Chamber for more information!

On December 28th, the Benelux Chamber will organize an informative session/workshop on life in China. This includes sim card set up, Alipay/WeChat set up, do’s and don’ts, introduction to China’s legal landscape, etc. More details will be shared by email beforehand.

 

3.1 Chinese Language and Culture Program

2025 ECNU Chinese Intensive Training Winter Program, which lasts for three weeks, will offer some different modules such as Chinese course, language practice, city exploration, business visit, culture experience, field trip, etc. It will provide you with an opportunity to focus on Chinese language learning through intensive courses and practice tasks. It aims at improving your comprehensive Chinese proficiency and enhancing your Chinese communication skills in a short time.

The program includes the following:

√ Professional teaching staff: The teachers have solid Chinese language knowledge, rich Chinese teaching experience, and a teaching style characterized by interaction, fun, efficiency, and personalization. They are always full of vitality and passion.

√ Comprehensive curriculum: The courses are given in the form of small group instruction, tailored to your Chinese level. You will be offered some true context by diverse language practice tasks which will help to train your skills of expression and communication.

√ In-depth culture experience: You will participate in a variety of activities, such as city exploration, business visit, culture experience, field trip, etc., which will enable you to perceive Chinese culture and society in practice and develop your multicultural perspective.

√ Overall program management: A program officer will be responsible for all the affairs related to the program from the registration to completion. You can apply for one-on-one tutoring during the teachers’ office hours every week to get personalized tutoring.

 

3.2 Internship Program

Students will be put in touch with their internship placement organizations throughout the Chinese Language and Culture Program. The internship period will officially start on January 20th, 2024. The internship period depends on the agreed time between the employer and the student (min. 4 months, max. 6 months). During the internship, the student will become automatically member of the Benelux Chamber and will be invited to various events. Events regarding Benelux students in Shanghai shall also be organized from time to time.

Important: the Benelux Chamber of Commerce is in no case responsible for the tasks and other details of each internship. Details shall always be agreed upon the employer and the student.

 

3.3 Basic Terms for Benelux Interns

·       The Benelux Chamber of Commerce is not liable for any cancellations on the Intern’s or Employer’s side;

·       The Benelux Chamber of Commerce is in no means responsible for the management of the Intern;

·       Any dispute regarding the labour contract between the Employer and the Intern is to be solved between these 2 parties.

·       Benelux Chamber member companies are encouraged to provide an internship reimbursement fee of at least 100 RMB/working day and are strongly advised to reimburse all work-related costs (work meals/lunches);

·       Students will be responsible for covering visa costs when it comes to applying for the study/internship visa in the Benelux region.

·       The Benelux Chamber will be supportive to all Benelux students partaking in the 2025 Intern2China Study and Internship Program.
